For my 16th birthday, my mom and grandma took me to Florida, and we visited a tortoise sanctuary. The tortoises were lovely, but they also kept iguanas, turtles, and a koi fish pond made from an old swimming pool. I went and sat by the pond for a while, greeting the koi as they'd peek up at me at the surface before disappearing back into their deep olive abyss of water just as quickly as they appeared. It was a great moment, every time I got to connect with those fish for a few seconds, and I've always wanted to capture it in an artwork. I tried to use flowing green and yellow lines to show the flow of the water moving with the koi, and emphasized his bright red pattern to contrast with the water.
