Being perfect can drive one insane. A 99 is an incredible grade, it's not a "perfect" grade but for some this grade is a disappointment.† This drawing is deeply personal, my sister suffered with what she described as an inadequacy academically & personally. Her grades were how she defined herself, without a 100, she felt she failed. These thoughts suffocated her & she became but a shadow of who she once was. My sister was constantly distraught over every minor thing she thought wasn't "perfect" & these thoughts brought her to self destruct. I watched her debilitate herself. It took so much work to help my sister find herself again & value the person she is versus the number or letter on a piece of paper. The tremendous frustration & destruction of one's self is what I tried to represent in my drawing.† The hands show the angst, pressure & frustration at the sight of a good but almost "perfect" grade while being completely trapped in that feeling.
