My painting, titled "A Day at Band Camp," is a portrait of myself sitting on a speaker during a marching band rehearsal. This piece encapsulates the love I have for marching band and the impact it has had on my life. Ever since my first band competition four years ago, I have pushed my keyboard, which is on the cart to the left, onto the field every single time. As a senior, the feeling of pushing that cart out and performing on the field for the last time was a very emotional moment for me. Because acrylic paint was not my main medium, I had to experiment with different painting methods. I would dilute the paint with water and layer it onto the canvas until the colors blended together. My goal for this painting was to capture how even a small, seemingly insignificant day at band camp had great meaning towards me as a senior who knew that time in my life would soon come to an end. I believe it is important to appreciate every passing moment, because nothing in life is permanent.
