Greenville, SC
Born in Buffalo, NY, Judith Powell Krone earned her BA in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo, her Master of Librarianship from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and her M.F.A. from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. Her woven and printed pieces have been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout the United States and in Europe and Japan. Her paintings have been shown in Georgia and South Carolina galleries.
She has been exploring themes of traditional drawing and painting techniques and materials to enhance her work. The incorporation of these studies has been developed into her series of portraits of elderly women which are sometimes created on stretched canvas and sometimes on hand-woven cloth.
Krone’s work is influenced by the art of Chaim Soutine, Lucian Freud, Bernard Buffet, Joan Brown, Alice Neel, Elaine de Kooning, and most recently Hope Gangloff.
