I enjoy using art as a means of communication that is deeper than words, resulting in thought-provoking juxtapositions and a conceptual and surrealistic style. My goal is to foster awareness and a continuous dialogue between artist and viewer about important and lesser known qualities of various mental disorders. I believe that most people in society are more alike than different. My work seeks to create an environment of curiosity, learning and common, relatable ground between those with and without mental disorders. Someone with PTSD could be your perfect “Leave it to Beaver” dad next-door, or the businessman/businesswoman you work with. This guy is reacting to the viewer’s seemingly normal existence and actions in a negative way. The structured black-and-white world he’s created has been enriched, but is this a good thing? Color is better than black-and-white, right? Maybe not from this man’s perspective. He’s experiencing more of a sensory overload from it.
