When I was 22, I developed pelvic floor dysfunction from prolonged stress. At the time I was unsure of what was happening and unable to take action due to an inability to get correctly diagnosed. I became obsessed with herbs and practices as my distrust for doctors grew along with my desperation to relive symptoms. I was very lucky to receive a grant from Iridian Gallery in Richmond, Va, which I used to purchase the wood for the table top. My best friend at the time went with me to pick it up, and for the first time in months I was symptom free. This trip turned into a car trip every Friday where I would experience brief but rejuvenating relief. Retrospectively, it was the pursuit of making my art and time with loved ones that allowed my body to relax. This table is the result of the only joy I knew in my darkest time. It's simple design was a result of limited ability to work and it became a space for self care.
