In writing, ellipses mirror the way people actually think and talk-incomplete, meandering, intuitive. An ellipsis can indicate time passing, memory fading, or contextual omission. As far as punctuation goes, ellipses are the only marks that exist in the realm of feeling more so than grammar. In this work I am exploring the space in painting that ellipses occupy in writing. The small marks in the lower left swell and overlap, and take over the space. Relationships between color, line, and shape are sometimes defined but often merely just implied. Rules appear, are adhered to, and then sometimes abandoned. I allow the intuitive exploration of these relationships until the piece seems settled and there is nothing left to add or omit. What remains after this process is an abstraction composed of hundreds of elided decisions which I hope resonates with the viewer intuitively, outside the visual grammar of meaning. What remains is all that's after the ellipses.
