My artistic practice has always been informed by my personal journey of healing and spirituality. I am deeply inspired by my ancestral religion of Taoism and visual representations of balance. This piece references Piet Mondrian's compositions in the visual language of De Stijl. I am interested in Mondrian because he was also a person from the "Western" world who believed in "Eastern" religions. De Stijl is philosophical and spiritual. It's about finding balance in contrasting opposites: vertical and horizontal, black and white, yin and yang. It's about coming to terms with the idea that everything is an illusion. It's a meditation, a depiction of the void. In this piece, I've interpreted this style in my own three dimensional visual language. The addition of elements with fluidity and randomness contrasts the carefully planned geometric composition. I challenge the viewer to denounce perfectionism, to find balance in chaos, and simultaneously, to slow down, to reflect, and to let go.
