This piece was made in honor of my mother, the figure in the painting, who had worked hard throughout her life to care for three children and her disabled mother. She had finally worked to get to a point where my family is financially able to go on boat trips. This painting also reflects my love and nostalgia for growing up in Jacksonville, FL where the beautiful water of the river and beach go underappreciated. I used warm, unrealistic colors to depict the sky and surrounding landscape to create an ethereal, dreamlike scene representing those weekend boat trips I think fondly of.
