In 2024, the first Rare Bloom was born. When a 2010 outdoors installation in Webster Woods Sculpture Park (Port Angeles WA) required major restoration work, it felt natural to have it bloom for the first time. Most of the forms that I create as part of my ongoing body of work titled "Spacious Morphology," have a design connection with the natural world. Not direct references but rather, the result of influences and admiration from what nature does. Repetition (multiple wood clothespins) reflects the aggregation of cells composing living things. Space between molecules, cells and body parts become places to explore up close. These three dimensional designs start with an idea, yet they almost always evolve from the process, curiosity and experimentation. Hence the sudden addition to color and flowers. Working from and with nature has been my driving force since my last years in southern Florida and even more since moving to Savannah, GA, in 2018.
