I had an idea in mind after hearing Lisa Lord, the Conservation Programs Director with The Longleaf Alliance discuss her mission to conserve the state endangered Carolina Gopher Frog. I accompanied Lisa to a national forest in South Carolina. Her passionate work to foster collaboration for a sustainable future is just one of many reasons I reach out to her. I filmed the video in an area which is a perfect habitat for the Gopher Frog. These rare frogs live in scattered localities in the Southeastern Sandhills and Coastal Plain. They prefer bog-like areas in longleaf pine ecosystems. Along with the video, I sculpted frogs out of clay and gathered plastic, cords, and other materials to build an unnatural world. When the frogs are threatened, they will lower their head, and cover their eyes with their front feet, looking as if they are playing peek-a-boo. It sounds adorable, but I would rather they find peace and not feel threatened by negative human activity.
