Kristy Bishop (b.1986) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in weaving, color relationships, and textile traditions. Her work embraces the slowness and intimacy of intuitive material processes. When beginning to weave a band, color relationships are at the forefront of the creative process. Using a rigid heddle loom, she weaves colorful and brightly patterned bands that are interwoven into vine-like compositions that grow, split and stretch and are handsewn into place onto organically shaped foundations. Her compositions are inspired by vines and overgrown tendrils, and the wrack lines that wash ashore from high tide.
In August of 2025, Kristy was an AIR at Texere, Oaxaca, weaving on traditional back strap looms. Her work has been featured in the Renwick Gallery Store in conjunction with Subversive, Skilled, Sublime: Fiber Art by Women. She has exhibited throughout the United States and most recently in Paris for Carpet Diem during Art Basel Paris.
