"Foray I (Last Light)" is an optical investigation that strives to both celebrate and break traditional painting into refracted color, shape, and meaning. Like light caught in a prism, shifting perspectives and double imagery capture the ephemeral nature of our changing landscape, and explore themes of perspective and environmental stewardship. The combination of naturalistic pictorial realism with the spinning forced perspective alternative canvas structure seeks to preserve the impression of a fleeting, but sublime moment of the last light streaming through the trees during a foray into the Appalachian Mountains. Simultaneously dazzling and disorientating, this work is interactive, both physically and metaphorically underlined by the theme of shifting perspective. The viewer is not a passive entity, but simultaneously an active party in creating and dizzied by existential vertigo.
