Mooresboro, NC
Cecil Norris's work engages Martin Luther King Jr.'s Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community, which warns that racism, materialism, militarism, and ecological disaster threaten society. Through collages, paintings, and drawings, Norris uses social commentary to communicate concerns about his community and Western culture. As a Black man, his perspective shifts between participant and witness, offering an uninterrupted voice to express observations on modern life. His work sits at the intersection of chaos and community, critiquing society's "evils" while imagining repair. It acknowledges the grotesque conditions we share and the propaganda shaping our lives, acting as town crier, self-critic, protester, and dystopian observer. Born in 1995 in Shelby, North Carolina, where he lives and works, Norris earned a degree from the School of Architecture at UNC Charlotte, now working as an architectural designer and former art teacher.
