This painting is the most recent in a series that explores the connection between architecture, space, body, and escape. Painting these is a cathartic practice for me as I explore internal schisms and splits that developed through early childhood into adulthood. As a child, I often found myself day-dreaming of unachievable escape fantasies. These themes would follow me to my literal dreams as I dreamt for hours of running away, fighting, jumping from roofs, flying, or-as portrayed in "Trussed"-swinging from rafters. This series is my way of offering myself relief by imagining and painting spaces and scenarios in which I was able to act on those escape fantasies and dreams.
