Tanner Maxey (b. Summerville, GA) is an artist and educator whose interdisciplinary practice explores memory, materiality, and the domestic as sites of tenderness and decay. Drawing from familial craft traditions--particularly those of his mother and grandmother--he transforms textiles, crochet, and everyday materials through processes of casting, burning, and preservation to examine impermanence and the fragile traces of care. His work often blurs boundaries between sculpture, print, and installation, treating acts of making as both mourning and remembrance. Currently pursuing his MFA in Studio Art at Georgia Southern University, Maxey teaches courses in 2D and 3D foundations, encouraging students to embrace experimentation and vulnerability in their creative process. His work has been included in exhibitions such as Fibrous: A National Juried Exhibition of Paper and Textile Artworks and Prismatic, and featured in the 2025 Pierian Journal.
