Pedro Ledesma, III is a photographer whose Korean and Mexican heritage, Texas upbringing, and past career as a World Bank economist provide a unique lens on systemic inequality. Drawing on his mixed-race, Ivy League, and Southern Baptist background, his work confronts social and economic inequities by examining how national issues unfold in small-town America. His artistic process is rooted in deep, immersive research within the communities he photographs, using thoughtfully chosen materials and scale to amplify underrepresented stories.
Since committing to his practice in 2018, Pedro has achieved rapid acclaim. Recent honors include the 2024 Trawick Grand Prize (top award for MD/DC/VA artists), a 2025-26 VMFA Professional Fellowship, and inclusion in the 2024 VA MOCA Biennial. His work has been acquired by the DC CAH, and his 2025 solo exhibition, Our Rich (African) American History, was curated by Dr. Brandon Fortune, former Chief Curator of the National Portrait Gallery.
