My ongoing series of "Sacred Hearts" began a decade ago, inspired by the vibrant, soulful artistry I encountered during my time in Mexico. While rooted in the Catholic imagery I grew up with, this collection has evolved into a personal, inclusive vision of spiritual love and empathy. My work deliberately incorporates symbols from various global beliefs-including Santeria, Voodoo, and Yoruba-to celebrate the interconnectedness of all faiths. Furthermore, I believe a sense of humor, a necessary and gentle lightness, exists within the spiritual energy we seek, which allows us to find grace in a complex world. This specific piece is a reflection of my deepest belief, that the female body is sacred, a vessel holding the world's pain without sin. Here, I depict the Virgin of Guadalupe in her simplest, most essential form: naked, beautiful, and profoundly vulnerable. She stands as the ultimate symbol of strength and boundless love, stripped down to her purest being.
