Durham, NC
Christine Hager-Braun's abstract fiber art revolves around resilience, hope, and compassion.
She bases her work on conversations about mental health, chronic illness, and invisible disabilities, and then captures the spirit of the exchange. Selecting fabrics, sewing little pieces together, transforming aspects of individual pain and personal triumphs into universal lessons allows her to assemble many voices into one bigger story.
Suffering from depression herself, Hager-Braun has become an outspoken advocate who aims to promote a dialog about invisible health struggles through her art.
Hager-Braun exhibits her award-winning fiber art in regional and national juried solo and group exhibitions. Her work can be found in national and international private collections as well as corporate and hospital collections in the US.
Hager-Braun moved from Germany to NC in 1999 pursuing a career as scientist in HIV research. Since 2006 she works as full-time artist in Durham, NC.
