Leatha Benvie Koefler

Raleigh, NC

Koefler moved to North Carolina in 1977. Married for more than 50 years, she has two children & two grandchildren. She has worked as an art educator, designer, & gallery owner. Koefler works as a fulltime artist; building sculpture from remanence of old tech objects. This began when she inherited forty years of family slides. She attributes her interest in making to her family & the technological changes witnessed in her lifetime. Her parents & grandparent were artists, draftsmen, needle workers, interior designer, chef, & homesteaders. Her family's first telephone was a line shared with a neighbor. Now she carries a device in her pocket that is more powerful than the computers used to put men on the moon.

She has exhibited in four regional museums, won grants & awards in regional & international exhibits. She holds degrees from the U. of Cincinnati & NC State U. with post grad studies at Savannah College of Art & Design & The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
