"Goblin Market," is inspired by Christina Rossetti's poem of the same name. The imagery is mostly illustrative, the drawings and photographs a meditation with an unruly fence line acting as a constant presence. The series of large platters serve as a canvas for the abstract narrative. Mischief ensues. This project began with late-night pen and ink drawings at the Hambidge Center, an artist residency in Rabun Gap, Ga. These sketches eventually evolved into a surreal narrative spanning 20 feet on a painter's paper drop cloth. After completing the drawings, I made and glazed large platters (roughly 24"-27" each), then transferred the imagery onto them using homemade decals. Finally, I drew the fence line using over-glaze enamel, and fired for a third time.
