Holly Mathews

Holly Mathews (b. 1983, Anchorage, Alaska) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work bridges the tactile and the transcendent. She earned her BFA from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco (2012) and MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (2017). With over twelve years in higher education, she has taught at the Academy of Art University, Santa Clara University, and the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Hong Kong, and Lacoste, France. Mathews explores identity, memory, and the shifting terrain of the female body. Her recent work delves into birth, postpartum transformation, and the sacred yet feral passage into motherhood, rendered through oil, encaustic, fiber, glass, sinew, and natural materials. She lives and works in Savannah, Georgia.
