New Orleans, LA
I am an Italian documentary photographer and social artist exploring the human condition and its connection to nature. Over the past nine years, I have developed a unique serigraph-based printing method using an exposure unit to burn large-format negatives onto fabric--a modern take on Talbot and Niépce's early experiments. From 2013 to 2016, I documented the impact of colonization and displacement in Colombia, merging photography and fabric to embody memory and resilience. Since 2016, I have lived in New Orleans, working on themes of memory, migration, and cultural connection. My work has been exhibited internationally, including the CAC and Ogden Museum (New Orleans), Rabbit Hole Gallery (Brooklyn), and Art Basel Miami. Justa Rufina Escobedo Tzaj (b. 1983) is a Mayan artisan, mother of two, and community leader from Santa Clara Atitlán, Guatemala. A master of embroidery, she continues the ancient thread traditions of her people.
