This is the Carabao, the symbol of hard work to many in the Phillipines. This animal helps the Filipino farmers manage the rice fields and is the best friend to nearly all Pinoy farmers. In many rural parts of the Phillipines, farming equipment and technology is becoming more and more expensive, so the Carabao is very important in the farming culture. Back when I used to live in the Philippines, my grandmother would take me and my brothers to Cadiz city to see my great grandmother who lived in the rural part outside of the city near all the sugarcane fields. Everything was very simple back there - dirt, muddy, and bumpy roads depending on the season and houses rarely with any electricity. During my visits there, I would sometimes see a man with his Carabao walking side-by-side with each other on the dirt road that leads to somewhere.
