I was inspired by the global disasters that are occurring right now and uses the Tufted Puffin as the main subject to represent future possibilities of animal species, where its current stable conditions could fall into oblivion and be left with one sole survivor, which we as a race remain blind to, hence to the appearance of cheerfulness, in the art. The background is an example of the Tufted Puffin's habitat, but it is overgrown and there are no nests left and no other birds. The sea is empty and endless to represent the ongoing problems and never-ending challenges to find a solution to such a problem, while the clouds are clearing from the skies to represent hope, while the puffin looks to you because of its reliance on you. I used colored pencils and graphite for this drawing to try and enhance the symbolism and allow the audience to connect to the art and be inspired by its meaning, or their own meaning of it.
