I've specifically honed in on society's use of technology, and have begun to connect the old craft of textiles to the high-tech reality we live in. With the inevitable intangibility (or virtuality) of technology, the functions of textile and sculpture explore the tension of what is real and what isn't, leading my work to fall into a conversation about perception and the results of perception shifting over time. With "Read 10:37pm," I mined text from two simple text messages I sent years ago. I found that I sent the message to a number that wasn't saved in my phone, and I also realized I never got a response. With the two separate messages: "where r u" and "where did u go," I was struck with the idea of my words reverberating in cyber space endlessly: just as I could obsess and think about the recipient's lack of response. In an effort to make a relational connection with a human virtually, I wanted to tangibly depict the reverberation of my words within my very real self.
