"Joined by Tradition" is an exploration in mixed media-Catawba pottery and Longleaf Pine basketry. Both of these art forms are important in the Catawba community and have been passed down to me by my elders. Combining these two mediums helps me to make sense of my own connection to the Catawba community. Growing up away from the reservation and ties to our tribal traditions, I have just started to reconnect with my roots within the last five years. The combination of these two mediums is representative of the two parts of my life-both important and coming together to create something beautifully unique-as well as a sign of gratitude to those who have welcomed me back into my community and taken time to teach me traditional arts.
