When I was first learning to draw portraits, I would pencil in my reference lines with what my teacher called a "heavy hand ." It was hard to avoid this so-called issue, so instead I leaned into it, mastering my current line-work style. The lines are fun and freeing, and usually done freehand. To complete the rustic look, I cover everything in a light layer of pastel for texture. I also add numbers symbolizing the time of the art's completion. In this piece, I wanted to portray a couple who feels distant, although they are somehow connected.
