Nature has always been a common thread that connects people, regardless of origin or identity. For me, coral reefs embody this interconnectedness as they encapsulate fragile ecosystems built from difference and interdependence. Being biracial, I see in coral a reflection of my own layered identity: a living network of contrasts that finds harmony through coexistence. Coral reefs are spaces of color, diversity, and adaptation, yet they are also among the first to reveal the effects of global warming. Their gradual bleaching mirrors the ways cultures and histories can fade when neglected or unprotected. I use the imagery of coral as a metaphor for cultural and personal ecosystems and how beauty and vulnerability coexist, and how identity, like coral, can be both delicate and resilient. My art is a meditation on what it means to live within shifting environments, traversing ecological, cultural, and emotional spaces that are held in transformation.
