Isabel Samatar is a painter and current student living in Richmond, Virginia. Her paintings describe and attempt to overcome the insurmountable social barriers between ourselves and others through the use of silhouettes, transparency and harsh contrast. Using these methods, she creates separate planes for different visual elements to exist on, tied together physically by the canvas they inhabit, but visually disconnected.
