"Nature Bound" is a handmade artist book intended to preserve connections with nature and our changing landscape. The leaves used for the processes involved with the making of the book were collected on long walks on mountain trails in the area of Pompey's Knob near the Blue Ridge Parkway. The clay sourced from North Carolina soils enables the book to become a historic visualization of place, time, memory, and the fragility of our natural world. The handmade paper allows for agricultural resources like cotton to become a foundation for receiving botanical contact prints of leaves from the trees in the Blue Ridge Mountains prior to Hurricane Helene where so many trees were devastated, including those from the found and gathered leaves used on the pages that are preserved through the print process. The house-shaped covers provide a home, a safe place where upon climbing a small ceramic ladder with a burnished finish we can follow our imagination into the woods and escape into nature.
