Elizabeth Coffey's practice revolves around figurative painting, using oil, lace fabric, and canvas to explore the tension between the seen and unseen of female identity. Her background in graphic design (BFA, Virginia Commonwealth University) infuses her work with a strong sense of color, composition, and typographic sensibility.
In 2022, she was awarded a residency at The Atlantic Center for the Arts and received first place in the Radius 250 Biennial. In 2024, she was juried into the Torpedo Factory Art Center as a studio artist. Recent juried exhibitions include the Mid-Atlantic New Painting Biennial and ArtFields, with work also shown at the Chautauqua Institution and 1708 Gallery's InLight. She works from her studio in Richmond, VA, and recently presented a solo exhibition at IA&A at Hillyer (Washington, DC), with an upcoming two-person show at The Athenaeum (Alexandria, VA).
