My artwork is a collection of various different ideas that I gain from books, the people around me, nature, and most of all, family. I make connections between nature, family, people, and the body. I connect the materials that I use to the intricacies of the ideas that I amalgamate into designs.
The complexity of nature and family can be connected through simplifying the two topics to the core similarities. Everyone experiences personal growth, and evolves over time. These ideas can connect to several themes of nature and the naturalistic ways of things, such as death and growing up, memory, self-identity, and the passing of time. I make work about this connection between these two subjects and how they can be considered reflections of each other, and taking the material of metal itself into consideration is a great way to visually understand this reflection.
I gravitate towards metals as a medium because of the durability of the material, as well as the contrast that it provides in the themes that I explore. I often hint at the history of that metal, whether it's an elemental metal or an alloy, and how its dynamic make-up relates to the variety of dynamics within families and relationships.
