Tara Thacker
West End, NC
Tara Thacker is a visual artist specializing in ceramics, crafting sculptures and large-scale wall pieces composed of thousands of individual components. Her work emphasizes fluidity and softness, challenging conventional perceptions of the material.
Born in Lynchburg, VA, Thacker pursued her passion for ceramic sculpture at Virginia Commonwealth University, earning her BFA and continued her studies at the University of Washington where she received her MFA. While maintaining an active studio practice over the last two decades she has actively been involved in arts education and administration while living in Vermont until 2023 when she moved back to the south and currently lives and works in central North Carolina town of Star.
Thacker was a 2023 resident artist at Starworks and Monte Azul Center for Contemporary Art. Her work is currently available through Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, Gravers Lane Gallery in Philadelphia, Stewart Gallery in Boise, and Orth Contemporary in Tulsa.
