Ricky N. Calloway was born on March 2, 1960, in Lafayette, Alabama, to Edward L. Calloway Sr. and Willie Mae Calloway. After graduating from Opelika High School in 1978, Ricky attended Alabama State University (ASU) where he received his B.A. degree in Graphic Design from ASU in 1984. He received the M.F.A. degree from Florida State University in the concentrated areas of Drawing and Painting in 1989. In the beginning of his professional career, he worked as a graphic designer and printmaker for t-shirt and sign companies in Montgomery, Alabama, and Washington, D.C. After working in the graphic design industry, Ricky pursued a career in fine art and teaching. He taught art classes at Milmore Arts Center and Tomorrows World Art Center in Washington, D.C. Afterwards, he accepted employment as an Assistant Professor of Art at Grambling State University in 1994. Since 1998, he has been employed at Fort Valley State University.
