Public, accessible, overlooked, dismissed, shunned, weathered, distressed, illegal, provocative, informative, creative, nurtured, ignored, changing, surviving, thriving, loved, undeniable, beautiful. This interactive photography-based installation aims to draw attention to urban outdoor aesthetics. A shelter made from privacy fence with more than 200 photos I took and hand-transferred into the wood. Inside: possible nourishment and comfort. Do you see beauty here? Street artists creating free (illegal) art at night, transforming our streets into public art galleries, message boards with socio-political prompts. Decaying buildings and signs of human industriousness echo past hope and history. Animals and wildflowers survive in the margins. Maybe the most invisible, yet present, element of the urban outdoors many of our gazes filter out: the unhoused people living in-between, in our shared public spaces. They too are beautiful and in need of seeing beauty, just like all of us.
