Jan Tomlinson Master is an interdisciplinary artist and educator who works in installation, text, and public art. She studied architecture and sociology at Clemson University, then received a BA in Art from Stetson University and a MFA in Sculpture from the University of Delaware. Master divides her time between St. Augustine and her studio in Welaka, Florida on the St. Johns River.
She collaborates on mosaic public art projects regionally and was chosen in 2015 to travel to Aviles, Spain to represent St. Augustine in the Noche Blanca.
Master uses an art practice that seeks to find healing in the intersection of art and nature. Building site specific installations that are balanced, hung, stacked or held together by tension she forms groupings in response to 'delicately balanced' relationships in the natural and human worlds. The installations are configured of the nature-made secured with the man-made as a meditation on both personal and environmental issues.
